Oncologists Reject Navjot Sidhu’s Claim of Cancer Cure Through Diet and Herbal Remedies
Following Congress leader Navjot Sidhu’s claim that his wife overcame cancer through a strict dietary regimen, oncologists have strongly advised patients to avoid “unproven remedies,” pointing out the lack of scientific evidence to support his statements. Dr. CS Pramesh, director of Tata Memorial Hospital, condemned Sidhu’s remarks, calling them “unscientific” and “baseless.”
In a statement, Dr. Pramesh criticized Sidhu’s suggestion that abstaining from dairy and sugar, along with consuming turmeric (haldi) and neem, helped cure his wife’s “incurable” cancer. “There is no credible scientific evidence to support such claims,” Dr. Pramesh emphasized. This statement was signed by 262 oncologists from Tata Memorial Hospital, reinforcing that there is no clinical data backing the use of neem or turmeric as cancer treatments.
Sidhu had previously shared in a press conference that his wife, Navjot Kaur, had beaten stage 4 cancer after being given only a 5% chance of survival. He credited her recovery to a strict diet that included turmeric, neem water, apple cider vinegar, and lemon water, along with avoiding sugar and carbohydrates and practicing intermittent fasting. According to Sidhu, after 40 days in the hospital, Kaur was discharged.
However, oncologists are urging caution, stressing that relying on such unverified methods could delay proper treatment. “Cancer is treatable when detected early, and scientifically proven treatments such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are essential,” their statement read.
